On sharing the sad news of Davie's passing on our St Swithin Street WhatsApp group, many of our neighbours wrote these lovely tributes to him which are detailed below. They reflect just how much everyone loved seeing Davie out and about, and how much we will all miss him in our community. Joanne
Moira: Oh that’s very sad to hear. Always great how Davie got about to all the cafes and loved a good chat!
Elizabeth: How sad. We often saw Davie enjoying his coffee at Coppa. He always chatted away.
Colin: Sad news - he always spoke when I was washing the car, a lovely guy. He was a very knowledgeable gent.
Tracey: I didn’t know or meet Davie but may he rest in peace. He sounds like a cheery/friendly character.
Kenny: He was a great Dons fan!
Scott: Sorry to hear. A great character and lovely man.
Catherine: I’m sorry to hear it, and I will miss him, and his bag of sweeties! Davie was always a ray of sunshine! He will be missed. He had so many stories and anecdotes too, and he seemed to know so many folk! Yes, without doubt, he was an Aberdeen legend, and so many of us will miss him dearly - RIP
Helen: Sad news indeed. I was lucky to have had one of those very sweets.
Eliz: That’s really sad. Harris and I met him almost daily when Harris was preschool as we walked for hours, which Harris loved and we saw him usually in several cafes in the same day as we passed and wondered how he managed to zoom about so quick. In more recent years, he’s still been the same jovial character, someone who always made you smile and a pleasure to talk with. Nae sweets ever, we never mentioned football!! Definitely someone we’ll miss.
Emma: We loved our chats with Davie and he was always so fond of a blether too. He will be missed in the neighbourhood.
Louise: That’s sad news of the passing of a real gentleman. He really did get about and always had a smile and chat with you. He will be missed from our street and cafes.
Alison: So sad. I adored Davie, he was a true gent. We had a few drinks together in the Dutch Mill and he always made me smile. Always remembered my name, asked after my doggies, and just chatted away and cheered me up whenever I saw him. He will be sadly missed.
Scott F: Really sorry to hear of Davie’s passing. A lovely, well loved member of the community. I hope he knew this and he will be missed.
Joanne & Neil: Davie was a great friend whom we got to know many years ago from chatting to him on our street. He was a generous and thoughtful man who always asked how everyone in the family was doing, what we had been up to, what sports the children were playing. He loved to talk about his family in Canada, what was happening in the world of football (especially Aberdeen!), the places he had travelled to over the years and the people he met when he was out having a coffee. The staff at the local cafes were always so kind to him and he spoke very fondly of them all. It was always interesting to hear about his working life spent in some of the best known hotels in Aberdeen and he really did seem to know everyone, and everyone knew Davie! He was a real character and we're really going to miss him.
